We've been here twice now. First time we were not so sure, but that was during a time when things were struggling because of Covid. This time sealed the deal...we are fans!! The food was delicious. The service was quick and our waitress was super friendly. I would highly recommend this place to anyone wanting great food, beautiful scenery, and friendly people!
I've known about this place for so long that I'm guilty of not getting here sooner! If you're looking for one of the last true local Mount Pleasant restaurants, then you'll want to add this into your dinner rotation. Set right behind the shrimp boats on Shem Creek, this place has eluded me for years as it's in very tucked away spot, that is still an active fisherman's dock! When you'll arrive, it looks like something out of a movie, and rightly so, if you've watched any of Outer Banks you'll immediately recognize the screen door on the right as a notable location. Walking up the dirt parking lot reminds me of just how going out on Shem Creek used to be - somewhat quiet, but busy with people. While walking up the steps you'll notice that this building has been through the ages, it's weathered and almost pieced together telling a story all it's own. At the time we went, we walked right up to the hostess and were seated immediately. They ripped off a big sheet of paper that serves as a table covering, perfect for Lowcountry meals and drawing to your hearts content (kids will love this!) Menus are simple pieces paper that you circle what you'd like as they submit them to kitchen. There is a good selection of grilled, steamed, and fried seafood to choose from. Most notably, you'll be wowed by the amazing view of the sun setting on the water. Drinks are served cold, bottled and canned. Boiled peanuts accompany the meal with a warm salty flavor. Guten Appetit!
Delicious , service was excellent, atmosphere was amazing, great food and choices of food was substantial!
This place is a rustic hidden gem in Old Mt. P. Very casual setting. Their local fried shrimp and oysters were perfectly done. Loved the boiled peanuts. Our server was helpful and friendly. Next time, I will sit outside and enjoy the Shem Creek view!
I can't believe I waited 7 years to try this place! Really good seafood with an unbeatable view! In my opinion, better, across the board, than any other shem creek choice! Not the Taj Mahal but that's part of the charm! Service was fast, efficient and friendly. Food came out fast. They start you out with complimentary boiled peanuts. The platters come with red rice, a grit cake and a small pup (a mini hushpuppy). You have your choice of boiled, grilled or fried. No reservations, first come, first serve. They have their own parking lot which is awesome in this area! Can't wait to come back!
Dirty dive that serves on paper plates and fries up shrimp, oysters , scallops, flounder and hush puppies. The rice was good until my wife discovered ham in it. I did love the coleslaw and enjoyed the hush puppies... It's no frills but good fried seafood. Service was a 5/10 .. maybe an off night.
A no-frills, mostly locals-only Shem Creek seafood shack hidden behind a dry dock facility and residential neighborhood. No reservations taken, so be prepared to wait a little bit during peak ours. Luckily, there's an outdoor bar overlooking the Creek serving local canned beer. Dining is inside only with limited seating and bustling fish camp vibe. The menu is straightforward with the expected choices of fried or grilled seafood--shrimp, fish, oysters served on paper plates. Two sizes to choose from (big or small) with sides. The food itself was solid and I was glad the batter on the shrimp and oysters were on the lighter side. While the seafood didn't blow me away, it met expectations and I will be back the next time I want to avoid the crowds at the higher profile Shem Creek restaurants down the road. (3.5 stars).
Had a great time here for my wife's birthday. It's not super fancy and it's authentic for local seafood without the prétention of many places in the Shem. They don't take reservations but it wasn't a problem for us coming early on a Saturday night. We shared everything with our friends and while we didn't love all of the food, it was still pretty good with a few items being excellent and more than met expectations. Typically we don't love fried seafood and most of what they do here is fried, or breaded, with a few items being grilled, but for things like oyster or scallops, you have to get them fried. The waitress was right in promising us that the breadedness here is lighter and flakier and a much better balance than some other places. We shared a seafood platter, which was a nice way to try a little bit of everything. My favorite was the fish (flounder) and the scallops. We shared each of the sides - boiled peanuts, lima beans cooked in some sort of meaty goodness, and fried green tomato's. We also shared the very peppery but good clam chowder and extremely rich she crab soup. The key lime pie was also super rich with an almost too much of a punch of sour for me but it was still tasty. I liked the banana cream pie more and if you have a sweet tooth you probably will too. We topped it all off with a few beers. Price wise it seems very fair here and less than some comparable seafood restaurants. Others have mentioned the courteous staff and ambiance, with which I have to agree. Service was also speedy. Being on the water and being able to step out to the small shipyard viewing space and the space inside with the covered patio make it with any imperfections here. Finally, we did not have kids in tow, but if you do, I like that they can draw on the paper tablecloths or run around outside as I saw others doing on our visit.
